Plates and Miles
Terms for places
Effective 20 September 2026
These terms are for the people who put a place on Plates and Miles: a restaurant, a cafe, a food truck, a park, a museum, a ride, anywhere people eat or go. They sit on top of the Terms of Service and the Privacy Policy, which apply to you too. Joining is free and stays free.
1. Who can sign a place up
- You run the place, or the people who run it have asked you to speak for it. We check the email address you verify against the place's website, and we may ask for more before we set the account up.
- One account speaks for one place. A group with several places asks us for each one.
- We may decline a sign-up, or close an account, when we cannot tell that it really speaks for the place.
2. What we show, and where
You agree that Plates and Miles may show, in the app and on platesandmiles.com, to anyone who uses them:
- the place's name, address, phone number and website;
- the hours you set, including a day you mark closed;
- the menu you keep here: sections, dishes, prices and dish pictures;
- offers you post, once we have reviewed them;
- the pictures of the place you upload, as the place's picture on its page, on dish tiles and on maps;
- counts about the place, such as how many people posted a meal here or want to try it.
We may resize, crop and cache what you upload so it fits a phone, and we may show the place in search, on maps and in lists inside the app without asking each time.
3. Your pictures and words
- What you upload stays yours. You give Plates and Miles a licence to store it and show it as described above for as long as the place is on Plates and Miles, and for a short time after while caches clear.
- You confirm you have the right to use every picture and every line you upload: you took it, or the person who did allows it, and anyone recognisable in it agrees to be shown.
- No pictures of other people's places, no stock pictures passed off as yours, no menus copied from another place.
4. Keep it true
- Hours, prices, dishes and offers must be what a visitor will find at the door. Update them when they change; a closed day is one tap.
- An offer must be honoured as written, for the dates you set. We review offers before they show and may decline one or take one down.
- We may correct or hide a detail that is plainly wrong, and tell you when we do.
5. What people say about the place
- Posts, ratings, dish notes and photos from diners and visitors belong to them. You see what was said, not who said it, and counts are counts only.
- You cannot have a post removed because you disagree with it. A post that breaks the rules for everyone can be reported from the app, and we look at every report within 24 hours.
- Do not use what you learn here to find or contact a diner outside the app.
6. Your details
The name, role, phone numbers and email addresses on the sign-up form are used to set the account up and to reach you about the place. They are not shown to diners and are never sold. Everything else about your data is in the Privacy Policy.
7. Leaving
Email places@platesandmiles.com from the address on the account and we close it within 5 business days. Your menu, hours, offers and pictures come down. The place itself stays in the app, with what diners and visitors posted about it, because those posts are theirs.
8. Changes
When these terms change we post the new version here with a new date and tell account holders by email. Keeping the account after that means you agree to the new terms.
